Dream of Gerontius ... "little short of breathtaking." |

Gerontius is one of my very favourite pieces. I studied it for A level in 1974 and STILL love it. Your performances in Louth and Southwell were hugely successful. I suspect that those of you busy concentrating in the midst of the performance may not have been aware just how successful. Thrillingly vibrant and atmospherically thoughtful by turns, John Graham Hall and Mark Wilde created powerfully different central characters from the same notes and words so skilfully. The orchestra played touchingly, powerfully and colourfully. Christopher Maltman and Leigh Wolf provided luxury casting. Martin Pickering was in total command of every detailed nuance of the score. Best of all, the chorus sang with a rare quality of musicality and sheer humanity of spirit that was little short of breathtaking. Thank you all. The memory will stay with me for many a year.
